From the Middle East to the Netherlands, the hard rock/hip-hop drummer has been exciting audiences everywhere throughout the globe while building a name for herself. Whether she’s touring with a band or going at it solo, you can hear the passion vibrating through her thumping beats.
“I pour out whatever I’m feeling at the moment or what’s going on in my life. I get it out on drums or in writing a song,” mentioned Seda.
Music has always been a part of the 35-year-old’s life. From the wee age of adolescence, Seda use to envision herself playing to an audience — so much so that she would draw pictures of herself onstage. Those past doddles have come to fruition as she hits the stage in South West Asia, Africa, London, and France to name a few places she has toured musically.
Hooping from destination to destination is nothing new for the Queens, New York native, but not for all the good reasons like touring. Unfortunately, at the age of 4 the once introvert’s parents divorced and until high school, she moved around yearly in the midst of a chaotic custody battle.
But as she got older and her shyness evolved into confidence, the eager musician became the women she is today! At the age of 15 she released herself from her constraints and came out to her parents, family, and friends after her stepmother tried to beat her to the punch.
I do have to say that I’ve been super blessed from family to friends, everyone has been supportive. I came out to my parents first at 15. My mom was very funny, she’s always known she says. I remember calling her over the phone and I said “Mom, sit down I have to tell you something.” She’s like, “Oh my god! You’re gonna tell me you’re pregnant!” I said, “No, mom I’m not pregnant. I’m gay.” She paused for a second and then said, “Don’t ever scare me like that ever again.” That was definitely the best reaction. My dad I told in person and I knew he was a little upset, but he got over it very quickly. The only reason why I came out to my parents was because I [was] forced by my stepmother at the time. She was threatening to tell my dad and I really didn’t want it to go down that way.
Nothing stood in the path of the courageous Seda dreams, she digested everything music growing up. From being inspired by her musically inclined father who played bass and guitar and toured with Patti Labelle in the 70s to also gaining influence from her stepfather who played guitar as well.
Music was even a big part of her life in school. She took all the music classes she could, learning the technical aspects of it all. In college she graduated from Berklee with a degree in Performance and Music Business. She also studied with drumming legends John Blackwell, Terri Lynn Carrington, Mike Mangini, among others. It was nonstop music for the impassioned drummer, and nothing has changed.
“Ez E,” as her close friends call her for her fun-loving spirit, has been on multiple Latin television shows, has toured as part of the bands The Von, UrbanRebel, Sicks Deep, Just Kait, and DMC. Plus, she has been featured in Rock Band 2, and she has developed a cool drumming performing concept, “nEon drummer”, in which she performs under the cloak of darkness while illuminated by neon accents.
Seda musical creativity doesn’t stop there, the hardcore drummer will be launching her first-ever clothing line that’s geared towards musicians, This is the Shit Clothing (aka TiTs), in the Spring of 2019.
