You would have thought that there would be more LGBT senior housing complex throughout the United States but unfortunately, there isn’t.
North Park, San Diego has opened the first LGBT-affirming senior housing complex in San Diego as reported by KUSI News.
The senior housing complex, North Park Seniors, has 76 affordable apartments within its complex. Everyone 55 and older that meet the complex qualifications is welcome to apply for housing at the senior living complex whether gay or straight.
However, the years of planning, effort, advocacy and hard work that went into developing and establishing the facility was to fill the void for senior housing in the LGBT community not only locally but countrywide.
North Park Seniors was built as a partnership between Community HousingWorks, a national affordable housing developer, and the San Diego LGBT Center. The opening ceremony was on Friday, April 27, 2018.
The public was invited to the celebration and the ribbon cutting was conducted by a happy group of individuals who had a hand in building and establishing the brand new senior housing living center.
The complex is located on the northwest corner of Texas Street and Howard Avenue. The physical address of the apartment complex is 4200 Texas Street, North Park, San Diego, CA 92104.
The property is a gated with new-age fob technology for building access. The complex design was created to promote community interaction on top of the overall priority of safety and comfortableness for LGBT seniors.
All open floor plan apartment sizes range from studios to one bedrooms, to two bedrooms. The communal grounds include a computer room with WiFi, a clubhouse with full kitchen and an oversized flat screen television, and a rooftop sundeck.
