Timothy Hughes did not hold back when a Trump protester interrupted the curtain call of Disney’s Frozen on Broadway’s Wednesday, September 5, 2018, performance.
The endearing Broadway star quelled the protest within seconds by quickly ripping the Trump 2020 campaign flag straight out of the protestor’s hands and flinging it stage left right out of sight so that the cast can continue their gracious bows during audience applause.
The reaction happened so quickly that the protester standing in front of the stage looking in the direction of the audience didn’t get much stage time at all — as quick as he unraveled the Trump campaign flag is as quick as Hughes made it disappear.
After the quick grab away occurred, the protester looked stunned and baffled as to what just happened. We guess he wasn’t expecting his big debut to end as quickly as it did but unfortunately for him, it did. What is truly interesting is the overwhelming support Hughes has received for his kneejerk reaction.
Later after the spectacle aka curtain call was all said and done, Hughes publicly gave his explanation on his Instagram as to why he responded in the way he did and refused to apologize for his brazen reaction.
What does it say about our country and politics when a man at the show tonight felt the need to protest Disney’s Frozen on Broadway with a pro Trump flag?? How frightening is it that our show’s messages of love, acceptance, and diversity have become the opposition to supporting Trump? The curtain call is a thank you between actors and audience, a final connection to end a shared experience. I will not apologize for how I responded to the disrespectful man trying to interrupt this moment with a pathetic political platform. Not at our show! Not in front of my beautiful, diverse, talented cast at @frozenbroadway. I appreciate everyone’s support. #resist #lovewins #lovetrumpshate
