Learn about all the intricacies of surrogacy and the many support systems that can help expand your family at a Men Having Babies Conference.
Men Having Babies (MHB) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing gay men the tools and information they need to expand their loving family with a new bundle of joy.
The invaluable surrogacy organization first started out in 2005 with monthly workshops and an annual seminar in New York but expanding with conferences throughout the globe in 2012.
2019 MHB Conference locations and dates available at the end of article.
Since their global expansion MHB has been hosting conferences on the West Coast and in the Midwest, Florida, New York, Canada, Israel and Brussels. New to their 2019 conference schedule is the added Taipai destination.
Each location serves as an educational forum while also providing gay men with surrogate resources in each respective destination. Brussels acts as the European destination and Taipei represents the Asian market.
The conferences are a much-needed resource as the process of surrogacy is one of many moving parts. Concerns of finding a egg donor, a person to carry the baby (surrogate) along with the legal aspects of the process are all part of MHB’s conferences.
Alongside being a resource for gentlemen interested in expanding their family, the conferences also provide an enviroment for men currently in the surrogacy process and those who are already parents.
Expecting parents can take advantage of the 2-day conferences’ Sunday segements in which “in-depth specialty sessions on budgeting, insurance, and the medical, psychological and ethical aspects of surrogacy” are part of the afternoon program.
And those who are already parents can take advantage of the conferences’ “socializing opportunities and special programs about ‘life after birth’ and in some locations a panel of teenagers born via surrogacy talking about their experiences as kids of gay dads.”
Besides their global conferences, MHB also offers a Gay Parenting Assistance Program (GPAP). The assistance program works to help gay men who are unable to meet the financial demands of surrogacy on their own.
Stage I, also known as the Journey Booster, of GPAP provides qualified applicants with “discounted services donated to the prospective parent by IVF, surrogacy, egg donation and legal service providers.”
Stage II of GPAP, the Direct Assistance stage, provides cash grants and/or connects eligible recipients with free services donated by participating providers of the assistance program.
As indicated on MHB’s website, one of the criteria of eligibility for GPAP, other than the determined need for financial assistance, is the requirement to attend one of the MHB annual conferences.
