Luca is energized about his new single Surrender coming out on May 3, 2018.
The Montreal born lyricist has been making music since he debuted his first single, So Excited, in Canada back in 1997. His title wave into the Canadian club scene led him to release more music after the success of his first single.
14 songs later, 2 official albums (Adrenaline and Playroom) and a new move to a place called home in Miami, Florida, Luca is grabbing hold of the mic yet again with his mid-tempo love song Surrender.
We sat down with Luca to get to know about him musically.
Q: When did you know that you wanted to be a singer?
A: I’ve always known I wanted to do something relating to the arts. I’ve always identified and have been intrigued by art in general. Whether it was sonically or visually, it inspired me and brought me to life. When the marriage of both collided, hence the MTV generation, it was a match made in heaven that suited me just fine.
Q: What would you say is your vocal style?
A: I’ve been told I’m reminiscent of a George Michael or Prince or even Boy George, which I deeply appreciate because of my respect and admiration for them all. However, I can’t truly determine my vocal style because of my musical androgyny. What I will say is that my vocals have a pop sensibility.
Q: What is your persona as a singer?
A: Revolutionary. Someone who has the ability to provoke and evoke thought in the power of lyrics.
Q: Do you like to exude sex appeal as a singer?
A: I like playing roles and enjoy being someone else as an artist at times. I like the freedom that it gives me, how it liberates me and how it has the ability to liberate others. It’s very empowering.
Q: What defines your music style?
A: Life, love, and living. I think it’s relatable on many dimensions. I dislike the idea of defining my music because I don’t like to shortchange myself and others.
Q: What creative aspects are you hands-on with in regards to your music?
A: I write every song. [Plus] I executive produce and conceptualize every song I’ve recorded.
Q: Who would you say is your musical counterpart?
A: I’d like to think Madonna.
Q: If you could do a duet with anyone who would it be?
A: Let’s see, umm… Pink, yeah she’s great!
Q: Other than a passion for singing, why do you sing?
A: I sing and write songs because I love the power of words and the ability of what lyrics can ignite, all types of emotions. It’s almost an aphrodisiac. It’s very empowering.
Q: What advice do you give to up and coming singers?
A: Perseverance [and] don’t be foreign to hard work, it’s unfortunately not only based on pure talent. Know your business and surround yourself with people who will advise you on your well-being and not only based on a monetary value.
